Naples is a city that offers a myriad of unique opportunities and attractions. Similar to any other city of its size, it shares the same inevitable problems, e.g. pickpockets; therefore, use the same precautions with which you are already familiar. Following are other useful suggestions:
  • Ask permission before taking photos of any officers of the law, especially Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza. 
  • US Personnel Only: Do not enter the off-limits area (see map). 
  • Always request the fiscal receipt (ricevuta fiscale) in shops, hairdressers, restaurants, bars, and all commercial activities. If you cannot produce it when requested by the Guardia do Finanza, you can be fined for assisting the shop owner commit tax fraud.
